Since 2008, we have worked with the MU Children's Hospital to support pediatric patients in mid-Missouri. In our inaugural year, we donated $13,500 and have been growing ever since, but our level of emotional support has never changed.
In a bold gesture of support, MizzouThon signed a $1 million pledge in 2014 to fund the renovation of the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in mid-Missouri. We view this as a way of investing in the tiniest of patients. It is part of an effort to ensure a bright future for not only these small patients as individuals, but to ensure a bright future for our world, as these kids are our future leaders, educators, innovators and caretakers.
This year, we've made some huge steps. We were able to raise an astounding $304,604.63 in 2017, which put us just over 75% of that $1 million pledge! Our dedication to the kids and their families is only growing and we're excited to see what this next year brings.
With the million dollar pledge, the MU Children’s hospital has generously named the wing the MizzouThon Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Our NICU donation adds to a continued five-year pledge to support the hospital's TeleHealth Loving Care program, music therapy program, Cancer and Blood Disorders unit, and provide salaries for teachers who help hospitalized kids stay on top of their schoolwork.
MizzouThon is the largest student-run movement at the University of Missouri. We work year-round to provide support, both financially and emotionally, to pediatric patients in mid-Missouri. We believe that every child deserves the right to be a kid.
Everything we do is FTK: For The Kids.

Awards and honors
At the Dance Marathon Leadership Conference in July of 2017, MizzouThon was awarded Best Storytelling for celebrating our miracle in the sky, Tommy Veltrop, through an hour dedicated to him at the 2017 Main Event.
During this hour, Tommy's family shared his story, dancers were challenged to raise $12 to celebrate Tommy's twelfth birthday and took a moment to remember his life by holding up red (Tommy's favorite color) glow sticks. At the end of the hour, Tommy's fundraising total had surpassed $1,000 and joined the comma club.
We are so humbled to have received this award and will continue to celebrate the life of Tommy!
